With Nova Scotia’s diverse seafood industry which includes 178 processing companies that provide year-round access to more than 50 species of premium quality fish and seafood, it can be seen that there is ample opportunity for business to thrive in this sector. 

Agri-Food Industry in Nova Scotia

Although Nova Scotia is typically known for their oceans industries due to their coastal location, the province additionally can be seen as the perfect place for a thriving agri-food industry with its temperate climate, afforable land, and innovative community. 

The province has over 3,000 farms, over 2,000 busineses, and approximately 12,000 jobs that are all linked to the agri-food and beverage industries that allowed for agricultural exports to amount to $362 million in 2019. Some key exports in Nova Scotia’s agricultural industry include fresh and frozen berries (particularly blueberries), frozen vegetables, and apples.

Nova Scotia’s advantageous climate additionally poses as a key benefit in its agri-food sectors. With the province being mostly surrounded by water, Nova Scotia’s growing season can stretch well into November due to it’s moderate climate. Lunenburg, located on the South Shore of Nova Scotia, is one of the only two urban communities in North America that is a designated UNESCO World Heritage site. UNESCO considers the site to be one of the best examples of a planned British colonial settlement in North America as the town still retains its original layout and appearance from the 1800s.

Outside of its rich history, Lunenburg’s waterfront community has a number of restaurants, distilleries, breweries, artisans and unique shops to be discovered.
